Health is Wealth

Health is Wealth

Friends,

Health is wealth. This is a century old dogma yet; many people fail to realize the importance of health. I find it very silly that many people are committed to be wealthy but not to be healthy. Pushing themselves to the edge in their work, finish the week with sleepless nights to beat deadlines, starting the day with anger in their heart, a frown and recite an endless complain throughout the day and most importantly forget to be happy. Health is wealth. This is the greatest wealth we can have and should strive to have.

I also find it funny when people worry how the world will end in 2012 but doesn’t worry what they will gain from being a chain smoker, can drink 12 bottles of beer but cannot have 8 glass of water. How the nuclear leak in Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant will affect their lives while not being concerned with their eating habits and unhealthy diets. How they watched their favorite actress in television for hours but don’t bother to take a 20 minutes exercise.

I am not a doctor. I am an engineer, but I read a lot. And from what I have learned most of the sickness (about 85% of them) is caused by our “unhealthy” emotions and most sickness can be cured or avoided by changing this unhealthy thoughts. This also means that we can avoid heart attacks, cancers and even colds by just choosing to be happy and choosing to make a healthier lifestyle every day.

At the end of the day, all you want to do is enjoy life. Reap what you have sowed and do what you love to do. We want to fulfill our dreams as soon as possible and we want to be on top of our shape if we do that. Before getting to be wealthy, it is proper to be healthy first. We all want to see our children grow.

Our health is one of the greatest blessings we can cherish in this lifetime. What more can a rich dying man, feeble and in poor health would not exchange all the gold in his vault for the healthy mind and body you have that you have failed to appreciate.

Let us avoid stressful habits and replace them with healthy ones. Start the day with prayer, a smile and simple exercise. Become careful on what we eat. Take a lot of laughter and create an environment that is full of love. Cherish each morning with your loved ones and always count your blessings. Relax and chill out. Win the morning and you will win the day!

Self Declaration of the Month

I am getting better and better everyday in all areas of my life.

I want to share this beautiful letter of a dying old man I had read from Andrew Matthews’ book “Being Happy”

“ If I had my life over again, I’d try to make more mistakes next time. I wouldn’t be so perfect. I would relax more. I’d limber up. I’d be sillier than I’ve been on this trip. In fact, I know very few things that I would take so seriously. I’d be crazier. I’d be less hygienic.”

“I’d take more chances, I’d take more trips, I’d climb more mountains, I’d swim more rivers, I’d go more places I’ve never been to. I’d eat more ice cream and fewer beans.

“I’d have more actual troubles and fewer imaginary ones!”

“ You see, I was one of those people who lived prophylactically and sensibly and sanely hour after hour and day after day. Oh, Ive had my moments- moment by moment by moment.”

“ I’ve been one of those people who never went anywhere without a thermometer, a hot water bottle, a gargle, a reincoat and a parachute. If I had to do it all over agai, I’d travel lighter next time.

“If I had to do it all over again, I’d start barefoot earlier in the spring and stayway later in the fall. I’d ride more merry-go-rouds, I’d watch more sunrises, and I’d play with more children, if I had my life to live over again”

“But you see, I don’t”

What the Bible says about it?

My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity . . . This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” - Proverbs 3:1-2, 8

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."--Philippians 4:13

Joke time…

When a physician remarked on a new patient's extraordinarily ruddy complexion, he said, "High blood pressure, Doc. It comes from my family."

"Your mother's side or your father's?" I asked.

"Neither," he replied. "It's from my wife's family."

"Oh, come now," I said. "How could your wife's family give you high blood pressure?"

He sighed. "You got to meet them sometime, Doc!"

Make Yourself More Valuable!

Friends,

Maybe most of us already have their list of “New Year’s Resolution." Most often than not, we fail to live our own expectations. Let this year be a different one and he year after another from now on.

On Stephen Covey’s book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People (which now has the sequel: 8th habit), he suggests that to be effective one should sharpen his saw on different areas of his life may it be spiritual, social, mental, physical and, may I also add, financial so that you can preserve and at the same time enhance the greatest asset that you have--you! Let us reflect on sharpening our “saw” or “continuously learning” and “giving time for ourselves”.

I remember my professor in college once kiddingly told our class that Albert Einstein’s brain was much cheaper than ours. That if we will sell it to a merchant, he will buy it at a very high price since an appraiser will tell him that compared to Einstein’s Brain, ours are still “slightly used."

From this year on, let us make ourselves more valuable. This is by learning new things and helping others to learn new things.

Learning new things also means we are adding some ‘feature” to our mind. It is like opening doors for different opportunities and allowing constant growth in our life. Imagine our mind is like an evolution of a cellular phone. First, it started with bulky portable device, then it became smaller. The dull LCD became colored. Then it can take some pictures, then they added some music and video capability, then it has a larger memory capacity, then it can access the internet, 3G, GPS, various application, touch screen, remote control and, maybe in near future can drive your car and wash the dishes for you! Even some cell phones don’t have these capabilities, it is agreeable that some units are better than the other. As the unit becomes better, the price increases and becomes more expensive. As we add more features to ourselves, we boost our potential and increase our value.

One may ask, “Who will assess your value?” The only person authorized to answer that question is you. While some may give you fair and sound assessment, it is only you who really knows your self-worth. If you think you are as good as your boss or as handsome as Adonis or as beautiful as Helen of Troy and as wise as King Solomon, then it is only you who can really tell.

Research for something you want to know. Try out your new ideas and put it into actions, learn new skill to serve others, read books and other useful materials that will stimulate your creativity, surround yourself with people that have positive attitudes and find yourself great mentors that will help you! Don’t be outdated, keep updated!

Hey! Remember, Stephen Covey also suggests to “preserve” ourselves. So, relax once in a while, enjoy everything you do, experience new things and discover places too!

Have a Fantastic and a Memorable life this 2011!

P.S. I won’t bother if an appraiser will tag my brain inexpensive like that of Einstein’s, for as long as I make the most out of using it. Besides, why will you sell a goose that lays golden eggs?

Self declaration for the Month.

I know my worth. I won’t settle for anything less. I am allowing good things to happen in my life.

In United States probably the most famous tradition in the United States is the dropping of the New Year ball in Times Square, New York City, at 11:59 P.M. Thousands gather to watch the ball make its one-minute descent, arriving exactly at midnight. The tradition first began in 1907. The original ball was made of iron and wood; the current ball is made of Waterford Crystal, weighs 1,070 pounds, and is six feet in diameter.

In Spain The Spanish ritual on New Year's eve is to eat twelve grapes at midnight. The tradition is meant to secure twelve happy months in the coming year.

In Netherlands the Dutch burn bonfires of Christmas trees on the street and launch fireworks. The fires are meant to purge the old and welcome the new.
