My Wealth Referrences

Friends,

There are a lot of books out there teaches us on how to get rich and become financially free. They will give you different strategies and on how to make you get out of the rat race, make good money by having passive incomes and teach you how to destroy your money limiting beliefs. I may not read all of them but most of these books have in common. Something is lacking. The values are not present. I mean, after being rich and achieving your financial goals, what is next? What is the purpose of being rich anyway? I have the same opinion that, what will you do with your money afterwards is not a vital element in becoming rich. Yet, I believe this is important. Because there is something more significant than being rich and that is fulfilling your purpose. Fulfilling your purpose of becoming wealthy is the only thing that will make you satisfied and happy. I believe, it should be the end in our mind- Fulfilling your purpose.

If you are looking for a book that will guide you step by step in achieving financial independence personally, I recommend you reading first- Simplify and Live in Abundance, 8 Secrets of the Truly Rich and Choose to be Wealthy- books by Bo Sanchez. I suggest these not only because the proceeds of the books goes to different foundations and charities. But also, I find these books very easy to understand for someone like me who is taking their first step in achieving prosperity. It also gives you exactly what to do! Why do we need to save, how we can start our investments, what are the things we should consider before investing, whom we should approach, the holy use of money and when to start. This book is very practical and recommendations from the author is applicable to everyone especially Filipinos. The reasons are obvious because of two things. First, the author is a Filipino. If you are a Filipino you might want to get an advice that is applicable in Philippines right? There are many good books too authored by famous foreign financial experts however, their idea is somehow needed to adjust in order to adopt Philippine settings. Secondly, it is based from Bible. Bible is for everyone even for non-Christian and most especially dedicated for the non-believers. It answers all questions - money not exempted.

My road to Financial Independence started only this year, when I attended the “Proper Series” at “The Feast”* (for those who still do not know where the happiest place on Earth is happening, please see the lists of places below. I hope this will be your spiritual home too! The Feast is a Catholic Mass Celebration followed by wild party of worship and mind blowing talks by inspiring preachers! See you there! ). The talks become my eye opener in starting saving money, where to invest it and how to grow it. I realized how procrastination and financial ignorance becomes very expensive. Basically, I learned that there are three ways how we can grow our wealth without getting into an active work, this is called passive income. This is by owning a business, via real-estate income and lastly by having paper assets. Among these three, I start building paper assets first. For me, this is the easiest. This is by investing your money through the stock market and other investment vehicles. There are two ways how to invest in stocks. The first one is directly participating in stock market by having a broker. Here, you call the shots. You are more hands on. The other one is indirectly investing via mutual funds. The only difference here is that you have a fund manager that will look into your portfolio and your investment is diversified.

A lot of people who directly invest in Philippine Stock Market lose money. I know that. I am one of them before. That is a fact and we do not need to argue about that. Why they are losing money? Because they do not have any idea what to do in stock market, they do not even know what companies to buy and when to sell their shares. They panic and lose money instead of profiting. I suggest that before participating into the stock market find a mentor first and be oriented how the market behaves.

You can join Bo Sanchez’ Truly Rich Club for guidance in investing. He is recommending stocks that have a potential growth. Again, he will guide you step by step investing in stock market. Here is the link.

However, if you want to invest in mutual funds and prefer to have a fund manager, and wanted to be mentored personally. Please mail me at jperalta_10@yahoo.com. We can organize a special lecture session with Mr. Lyndon C. Malanog (He is the one introduced in the book “Choose to be Wealthy” by Bo Sanchez). He is my officemate and mentor too. We are more than willing to teach you how to build your wealth brick by brick. Because, we believe that before engaging into any investment we must build first a solid financial foundation. This only means that we are prepared for emergencies that may happen, Have a sufficient income replacement, protection to our assets and how to avoid getting into debt trap. We also offer three series of free lecture at Chino Roces, Makati City every Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Here are the topics.

Lastly, I would like to invite you to join our Facebook Groups for you to have a continuous reading reference. Please search “ The Wealth Builder” in Facebook.com. I am publishing my blog there and give you links to informative articles from other bloggers as well at least twice a month. This is my small way of doing my part to evangelize people the importance of Financial Education.

We all need to be Financially Educated. You do not have to be broke or rich, young or old, educated or not before starting to attend seminars or reading books to increase your Financial I.Q. If you want to live a comfortable life and retire young, start studying now. Find someone who can help you. Find a mentor that will guide you and a team of people that will help you build your dreams. Be frugal in spending and give back to society. You are one wrong decision away from poverty and only one right decision to riches.

One of the most important lessons I learned is that we do not need to be wealthy first before we start giving. In fact, we should start giving first before becoming wealthy. Because if you cannot give atleast a part of what you have now, it is more difficult for you to share if you will have a millions of pesos tomorrow. This is my purpose of becoming wealthy, to give more. There is a lot of people who are in need. I learned that being wealthy is incomplete if not, useless if we do not share the blessing to others. Use money to live life comfortably and to love extravagantly. Use wealth to proclaim God’s word and spread the good news.

In case you don’t have any organizations or charities to support, I will also recommend some. Start investing in heaven.

Entering a Golden Era

Friends,

I wanted to write this so many months ago but there is always something holding me back. I feel like I am not in proper authority to speak on these things plus I really don’t know how I can say this in a very simple way. But now the reasons are so compelling that I will share this anyway.

Last January I started investing in the Stock Market. First, I am afraid that my hard earned money will just be flushed in the toilet. So I hesitated to enter what I think is a bear’s cage. But after learning basic concepts and opening my mind to this alien idea. I decipher the technique in investing in stocks. The key is PERSISTENCY. I started small but consistently. They call this cost-averaging technique – I call this a no brainer’s method. Why? Because it makes everything simple. What I like about this method is that you don’t have to worry when the stock will goes up or when will it goes down. It gives you a peace of mind and doesn’t need to learn much on the technical side. I am regularly saving money and make it a habit to put a certain amount to my investments or portfolios. I just have to put a certain amount regularly and accumulate shares of a good company. I also diversify so that I can minimize risks. By this way I become more like an investor instead of a trader.

For the first six months I see a very little gain and unreasonable profits in my investments. I am becoming impatient. Sometimes it even goes red which means I have to take losses. But it didn’t matter. I continue to invest in these companies. I believe it will appreciate anytime soon and my mindset is that I will continue to do this until I reach my financial goals.

But three weeks ago the market begins its way up! It seems like it is riding a Bull. It surges like a rocket and even breaks its all time high record! I think it is UNSTOPPABLE. I believe it is only the start of its way up and I haven’t seen anything yet.

To give you an idea how much these companies makes profit for the past nine months. Here are some of the equity funds I look into.

Equity Fund A 61.37% Up
Equity Fund B 47.58% Up
Equity Fund C 45.91% Up

There are still many reasons to push our economy up and appreciate further the value of the Stock Market. One of the reasons is foreign investors start to come. This is a good sign that there is still a bigger room to move into. For the coming months they will bring lot of money and start to buy companies that I am buying too.

There are also things we must consider before we start buying shares in stock market and there are things we must know where to put our money first before entering any investments. We can help you on these things. I wanted you to meet my mentors and be financially educated. We are afraid with the things that we do not know. Do not be afraid with the Bears and ride the Bull. I hope you will not miss the ride going up! Wishing you success and happiness! -jmp

40th Most Competitive Economy
In its 2002 World Competitiveness Year Book, Swiss agency Institute for Management Development (IMD) ranked the Philippines as the 40th most competitive economy in the world. The Philippines was ranked ahead of Indonesia but behind other East Asian countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, China and Thailand.

In a separate report also in 2002, the Philippines was ranked as 61st among 80 countries in the global growth competitiveness ranking of the World Economic Forum (WEF), which is a project of the US-based Harvard Business School.

The local partner of WEF is the Makati Business Club (MBC) while the local partner of IMD is the Makati-based Asian Institute of Management (AIM). These two organizations supplied most of the data used in the country's ranking based on the results of surveys conducted among businessmen and investors.

Sandwich Generation

Friends,

Are you a part of Sandwich Generation? This is a term used for describing people living today who are supporting their parents and at the same time having a child to feed. They are the one who are taking care of their aging parents and maturing children. This situation is common around the world even in U.S. Here in Philippines maybe “club sandwich” is a more appropriate term - a grandparents, brothers, sisters, niece, nephews or grandchildren to feed too! I have absolutely nothing against to those people helping their family. In fact, I admire them! But I wonder if several years after they retire, can they support themselves or they will end up being fed by their children too. Most of the time problem starts here - a continuous cycle and never ending sandwiches generation to generation. In my point of view it is not justifiable to pass the responsibility to the younger generations the burden to take care of us when we get old. It must not be a payment of ‘utang na loob” to us. This is far from the concept of a close family ties tradition. Isn’t it better if we can still provide for our own basic needs when we get old? Teach the young ones to be responsible enough in spending money. Prepare for your future medical needs, we will get old and sick anyway. Provide proper insurances and arrange your “will or testaments” we will die anyway and most importantly be financially educated. Accumulate enough assets and build passive incomes to provide your needs for the future. End this cycle. START SAVING for yourselves and learn to INVEST. Let us pass a prosperous life to those who are next in line!-jmp

What the Bible says about it?

A parent man leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren, but the sinner's wealth is laid up for the righteous.- Proverbs 13:22

Their father gave them great gifts of silver, gold, and valuable possessions, together with fortified cities in Judah, but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.- 2 Chronicles 21:3

"For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. Plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." - Jeremiah 29: 11

Joke time…

The best time to start thinking about your retirement is before your boss does…

Three elderly gentlemen were talking about what their grandchildren would be saying about them fifty years from now.
'I would like my grandchildren to say, 'He was successful in business' , declared the first man.

'Fifty years from now, 'said the second, 'I want them to say, 'He was a loyal family man' .

Turning to the third gent, the first gent asked, 'So what do you want them to say about you in fifty years?'

'Me?' the third man replied. 'I want them all to say, 'He certainly looks good for his age!'

Points to Ponder…

- Life begins at retirement. ~Author Unknown

-The challenge of retirement is how to spend time without spending money. ~ Unknown

As they say…

You're only young once but you can be immature all of your life. --Charles Scoggins

Retirement kills more people than hard work ever did. - Malcolm Forbes

Did you know?

Statistics show that the majority of sandwiched individuals are around age 60. An article published by WNBC indicates that more people than ever are caught caring for multiple generations.

The main reasons for this include:

• Adults live longer now than they used to
• The costs of starting a life, buying a house, marriage, children, have gone up to such high amounts that young adults can’t often afford a self-sufficient life and move back in with their parents.
The article also noted, “In the year 1900, only 7 percent of Americans lived with at least one parent. Now, that number is 49 percent.”

Have you ask yourself…?

*Are you taking steps not to be part of sandwich generation? What are these steps? If not, When will you start planning?

*How do you want to live after you retire?

Thing to consider…
1. Learn to open up and talk about your finances with your family especially with the young ones.

2. Learn how to make passive incomes and know how to increase your cashflows.

Budget and Diet

Friends,

Budgeting plays an important role in financial planning. Even the government, companies and the richest person sit down for hours to plan where their every single penny will go. I guess this statement will explain how important budgeting is and why we should do the same thing too - whether you are professional or a housewife, you need to learn how to manage your expenses. It may be a simple activity with a little arithmetic for few but most people failed to do so because they find it unnecessary and pointless. The goal of budgeting is to know where your money will go, to give priorities to what matters most to us and to know our current financial status. Budgeting serves as a clear financial guide in order to reach our goals in a measurable way. Without budgeting it would be hard to know when we can achieve our financial goal or if we are ready for some luxurious expenditure. Budgeting may be hard and can be compared to dieting too. It may require you to sacrifice pleasure, delay gratification and must follow it strictly to become “financially fit”. If we fail to live below or within our budget, we might catch ourselves into a debt trap without noticing it. Proper budgeting must address both SAVING and SPENDING concerns. It must address both our daily and future needs so we will not be catch into surprise. Think also long term in budgeting. We must prepare to save money for the expected things that will occur (retirement, college education, occasions etc) and also for the unexpected things that may happen too (loss of job, sickness and repair for car breakdown etc)… So get that pen and do the math and start preparing your BUDGET. -jmp

What the Bible says about it?
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it. - Proverbs 27:12

“For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first and counts the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he has laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.” – Luke 14; 28-30

Points to Ponder…
- A budget helps you plan where your money is to be spent, instead of wondering where it went.

- A budget is a method of worrying before you spend instead of afterwards.

-A budget is a way of reminding yourself that you cannot afford the kind of living you've grown accustomed to.

As they say…

A budget tells us what we can't afford, but it doesn't keep us from buying it. - William Feather quotes

"Never base your budget requests on realistic assumptions, as this could lead to a decrease in your funding." - Scott Adams, Dilbert

"I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something. - Jackie Mason

Did you know?
A budget is from old French word ‘bougette’ which means a purse or a leather bag…

Have you ask yourself…?
*Do I prepare a Budget for the next 15days? Coming months? Or for the next 3 years and 5 years?
*Am I living beyond, within or below my budget?
*Does my budget include SAVINGS and do I have a budget for EMERGENCIES?

Thing to consider…
1. Find someone that can help you do the budgeting. Maybe you can learn something from his/her budget too.
2. Try to compare your “planned budget to your actual budget. By this way you can see if you are or still on track and improving your finances.

Friends,

Avoid SCARCITY MENTALITY. Many people believe that money is evil and that they cannot make fortune because they are in debt, financially struggling or even avoiding spending extravagantly because of this thinking. Most of us are prisoners of these ideas that is why we are subconsciously avoiding all opportunities and do not enjoy what life is offering us. Money is created for love... that is the real purpose of money. And I believe that if you use your money for love there is NOTHING wrong about it. Create ABUNDANCE MENTALITY. You can throw parties for the poor, sponsor a foundation, Enjoy a long vacation and spare more time with your family if you are financially free. But think it over again, you can still do these things even you are still on your way to financial freedom. Giving back to society is where ABUNDANCE mentality begins! It all begins with your beliefs and thinking. An action follows! Your Poverty ends here. jmp
